Robert Newbery son of Francis Newberry Esq?
« on: Sunday 28 November 21 17:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello!

I have a John Newbery who was the son of Robert Newbery and his wife Jane Bone. Robert was born around 1775 in the Middlesex / London area but I am unsure if he is the son of Francis Newbery Esq & his wife Mary Raikes or George Newbery & wife Amelia?

Is there a way to determine who his parents are?

The marriage was 8 Aug 1802, at St. Martin in the Fields, and witnessed by a Martha Newbery.
Baptisms in St Clement Danes to Robert and Jane Newbery include daughter Amelia (1803) and son George (1808), son George Burgis (1810)
Robert a Paper Stainer on later baptisms.

Looks like George and Amelia might be possible parents.

I would agree with jonw here for the same reason. The names of parents were often passed down through families in those days.

Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I agree too.. its only when I saw every tree online with the parents being Francis & Mary and I started doubting myself!

There may be a problem, because there is a Robert Newberry burial in Chiswick, 1 June 1809, age 33

OK, there is a Robert Newbery marriage to Jane Latham, 28 Sep 1806, St. Marylebone.
One of those later baptisms in St Clement Danes was in 1821, a Richard Latham to Robert (Paper Stainer) and Jane Newbery.

So the later baptisms in St Clements are probably to them, not to Robert and Jane Bone. Only the first George baptism can be theirs then.
