Hoskins siblings of Castle Cary
« on: Monday 29 November 21 09:37 GMT (UK) »
Silas and Mary Ann Hoskins had a number of children and I am finding it a challenge discovering details regarding them. I think the list below is complete, but there may be so early deaths that I have not discovered.

Thomas 1847-1914 is my direct ancestor and I have knowledge about him. However, I notice on the internet someone has given him a middle name of Hayman and I don't know where that came from.

Martha 1839 lost her after 1861 census. Did she marry. When did she die? Also who is the Jas Hoskins on the 1861 census with her. It seems to be a brother, but I can't find anything else about him.

Aaron E 1851-     (poss also called just Edward) did he marry. Poss died 1933.

Richard J 1853-1876

James W 1858-1880

Frances C 1857 surprisingly born in Bristol. I can find no logical reason. When did she die?

Hannah 1849-1903 marr William Kenn

Mary Jane 1841-1885

Amelia 1839-1925 marr Henry Hunt

Eliza Ann 1847 did she marry John Cleave in 1867 when/where did she die?

A big thank you for any help,  Mark

The 1939 Register has an Amelia Hoskins, single and born 1845 and living in Castle Cary.
She died later in 1939.

Well thank you for all the really excellent information. As Silas was skilled in all aspects of building as well as a life long temperance man it might help me to discover why he went to Bath and Bristol. Do you think Hayman as a second name for Thomas is simply an error and not actually his second name?

As a side matter Silas died in 1894 and I do not have a picture of him. He was a staunch liberal, involved in the church, most aspects of Castle Cary life, committed temperance and friendly society person. I have tried newspapers, Castle Cary Museum without success and would welcome any suggestions ,even slightly mad one's, as I feel there is a picture out there somewhere.

Thanks again for your huge help.

Mark

I have been following up the excellent information and just have a very few follow up's having searched further without success.

Elizabeth Hoskins 1836  married James Cleave in Nov 1867 they seem to have had one daughter Mary E  where did they marry    were there any other children      when and where did she die   when and where did James die

Hannah Hoskins 1849 where and when did she die          how many children   when and where did James Barter die    just to add on one site her husband is given as Keen, no doubt completely incorrectly

Eliza Ann1843    the last thing I have discovered was that she was a housemaid at Chilton Cantelo for a curate in 1871.  Did she marry    did she have children  when and where did she die.

I have tried hard to find out and confirm the missing information but have drawn a blank. Any help would be fantastic.  Thanks  Mark
