Ireland 1871 census lookup
« on: Monday 29 November 21 23:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi. Can anyone help please?
I'm looking for John Charles Rogers, born 1844 , Cheshunt / Watford, Hertfordshire , although that's only from census' as I've not yet found a  birth record that I'm 100% sure is his. Father is James Rogers b 1815, mother Mary Ann Munns b 1818
On the 1871 England and Wales census , his wife, Emma and 2 daughters Catherine A and Sophia are in Cheshunt.
Emma is  Head and there appears to be a note in the occupation column which says her husband is a haybinder working in Ireland. Can anyone help finding him on the 1871 census in Ireland please?
The family name ROGERS appears to change to RODGERS somewhere in the early 1900's.

The 1871 Irish census no longer exists.  The earliest full census available is 1901.

Oh, the 1871 census does exist - as in the official census data and report.

It is merely the original census returns (census forms) that don't exist.

Thanks everyone. Apologies for late response. I've been trying to find an Irish connection for a Charles Ernest RO(D)GERS b1891 in Lambeth workhouse. His  unmarried mother Sophia Rogers age abt 21 is an " unknown", but Charles Ernest's grandaughter believed he'd originally come from Ireland.
An unmarried  Sophia Rogers  gave birth to a son John William Rogers  in 1893, also in Lambeth workhouse. Creed records state she was a servant in London.
John Charles Rogers b1844 had a daughter Sophia b ABT 1870 so I was exploring her as an possibility and  thought this might be the best Irish connection. The only other v loose Irish connection I have is that on the 1891 census John Charles' daughter Sophia is a servant for James McGee who was born in Ireland. Tentative I know, but this Sophia is the only one I've found with any possible Irish connection .
Of course the Irish connection may just be a "story" .
Thanks again.

Have you been able to trace Sophia Rogers in earlier and later census records that the 1891 birth? If you do then her country/place of birth should be listed. If Ireland-

Registration of births in Ireland started in 1864-

Oh this Sophia Rogers definitely wasn't born in Ireland ,and neither have any of the other 3 possible Sophia's / Sophie's / Sophy's . Of course we know Charles Ernest wasn't either.
I can't reliably find either Charles Ernest or John William on the 1901 England and Wales census . They definitely  weren't with any  of the possible Sophia's I've explored . I'd love to solve the riddle . ( PS, I'm not a paid genealogist or anything , just helping this lady because it's interesting and I like to help people find out about their family mysteries. )
