Thomas Sharpe
« on: Tuesday 30 November 21 12:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
I am trying to find any info about Thomas Sharpe. He was born abt 1718 in England (or poss. the USA) and married Frances Scrafton on 26 Nov. 1733 in St Pauls Cray. She was born abt 1720 in England.

One of their sons, Lancelot Lambert Sharpe was one of my ancestors. He was born in 1735 in Mark Lane, London. He married Sarah Till on 18 Nov 1773 in St Katherine Coleman Church, Fenchurch Street, Aldgate, London. She was born in 1748 in Aldgate.

Any info about Thomas and Frances will be gratefully received.

He was baptised and he married as Lancelot Sharp.  Do you have the deaths / burials for his parents.

You have a marriage in 1733 and births in 1718 & 1720 making the couple 15 & 13 when they married.  :-\

There are 2 baptisms in St Pauls Cray for a Frances Scrafton which could be her though I can only see transcripts
Feb 1707 - parents William & Frances Scrafton
11 Apr 1710 - father William Scrafton

Burials at this time did not often show age at death so it would be difficult to confirm the correct deaths for the couple but here are some suggestions for Frances Sharpe

31 May 1767 at All Hallows, Staining, London
10 Nov 1768 Spitalfields, Middlesex
... 1784  St Olave, Southwark
14 Nov 1786 St Martin in the Fields

The burial for Frances Sharpe for 31 May 1767 would probably be the right one, as her husband, Thomas, had a grocer's shop in Fenchurch Street and All Hallows Staining was their parish church.  :)

As a point of intrest, their Grand Son Lancelot Sharpe (1774-1851) took holy orders and became the Vicar of All Hallows Staining.

I would have thought the wills would have been of some interest :-\
In her will, dated 12 January 1766, Frances Sharpe of All Hallows Staining Mark Lane London, Widow, asks to be buried in the church yard of said parish, and says whereabouts.

Isaac Sharpe of All Hallows Staining appeared personally on 4 June 1767 to discuss the will of Frances, and a codicil.

Another will of interest (to some)
Will of Isaac Sharpe, Mariner of Allhallows Barking , City of London
23 June 1773
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D450275

I think that should be AH Staining.
One of the executors is brother Lancelot Sharpe.

There is some interest around in the Sharpes, but seemingly not very much in the Scraftons?
