Hi heywood, only mentioned the execution as John seems to disappear after the marriage to Mary Diggles nee' Wortley. I cannot work out why there would be a newspaper article re this execution with no official recording of a death (however he died)

Execution of John Diggles at Lancaster was in 1826.

Thanks John. I looked for John Richard rather than the other way  ::)
I thought it would be the right family.

There are other mentions of ‘John Diggles’. I can only see snippets.
1877 - another murder reference with William Wood
1892 - perhaps a query re John Diggles who left Salford twenty five years ago  for New Zealand

The Salford chap who went to New Zealand sounds interesting, given the John Diggles b Salford, son of Thomas on 1861

abandoned his wife in c1867?

Hi,

The advert in 1892 found by heywood is for information to be sent to a James DIGGLES of 12 Windsor terrace, Salford. In 1891 James b.1847 is living at this address with a wife Harriet and children. Looking at the GRO the children have the mmn as POTTER. In 1866 James DIGGLES married Harriet POTTER, his father is Thomas DIGGLES, spinner. In 1861 John DiGGLES has a brother James b.1847.

The advert says that John was last heard from by James in 1870. Maybe Mary thought he was dead and/or was marrying again freely under the seven year rule,
