What does oppd mean in parish records?
« on: Saturday 04 December 21 11:48 GMT (UK) »
I am looking at a number of (early) parish records.
E.g. John Cock oppd Innholder
I think it means of this parish or town but would like to know exactly what it means
Douglas, Varnden, Joy(i)ce Surrey, Clarke Northants/Hunts, Pullen Worcs/Herefords, Holmes Birmingham/USA/Canada/Australia, Jackson Cheshire/Yorkshire, Lomas Cheshire, Lee Yorkshire, Cocks Lancashire, Leah Cheshire, Cook Yorkshire, Catlow Lancashire

Oppidum is Latin for town and oppidanus is a townsman, so you are right. It will mean "of this town".
