Birth Sep qtr 1921
Gibson    Millicent G    mmn Laing
Newcastle T.    10b   60

She married in 1944 Newton Abbot reg district and is in Ealing in 1953

If she has died recently or out of the country then she could still be blacked out on the 1939 register.

Thanks Rosie. Agh that's frustrating haha.

Millicent Gertrude Gibson (b 1921 - d 1984) was Marjorie's sister. She married Joseph Andrew O'Hara in 1944 Newton Abbot reg district and is in Ealing in 1953. Millicent died in Vancouver, Canada in 1984.

In which case do you think I will be unable to find her in the 1939 register?

If she is blacked out in the register then that's a tough one. It would then become a process of elimination, starting with the fact she wasn't living with her dad Arthur and step mum Elizabeth in 1939 as there are no blacked our areas on the register (see below).

In the 1939 England and Wales Register Arthur Gibson (b abt. 1883) is living at 15 Huntilee Cottage, Stoke-On-Trent with his second wife Elizabeth Lucy Gibson, née Heath (b 1909 – d 1984), his son Arthur Frear Gibson and wife Violet as well as their daughter Beryl (b 1939 – d 1941).

Millicent and her husband Arthur and two daughters went to the USA in 1949  (record on Ancestry)

They do appear to have returned to the North West London area at some point before 1953 though.

ADDED They went back to the USA October 1954

Thanks Rosie. I know one of Millicent's daughters so have a fair bit of info on her travels etc. We are trying to find out more about her before she got married.

Extra info

Millicent’s daughter told me that Millicent was sent away for schooling at about age 7, we do not know why but I know that the Gibson’s were not wealthy people so it’s a bit of a mystery. Arthur worked as a Clerk of Works for most of his life.

I believe Millicent was visited at school when she was sent away (c 1927) by a lady called Gertrude Atkinson who I believe was born in very roughly 1865.

In 1911 her parents, Arthur and Millicent, were living at 192 Trewhitt Road Heaton Newcastle On Tyne. 1915 her parents are living in Tooting, London. By 1928 they are living in Harrow, London. I cannot find them in between 1915 and 1928. Looking forward to 1922 census!

I think that it is quite likely that she is blacked out as she died in the USA, it should automatically be uncovered in the very near future as she would have been over 100 years old (Birth 25 May 1921)

I am afraid I will have to leave it for now, time to eat  :)

Hi Shaun. Could you please let me know the source and year for this information, I couldn't find it on Ancestry. I have Millicent being born in July from the birth index but that's pretty close and there are actually very few Millicent G Gibson's. Thanks.

Image was from FindMyPast.  Entry for Millicent on Ancestry is still redacted.

Thank you! I don't have FindMyPast anymore, always the way. I think I have found the entry on Ancestry, were the Lanning's living at the same address in the 39 register.

I only ask is there is a Eastcote avenue in Greenford and nearby Harrow.
