All I remember of my Grandma McMillen (she was actually my Great Grandma) was seeing her in her death bed. She lived in Pallister Street, South Shields. There was a front door which opened on to a staircase. At the top of the stairs to the right was my Uncle Jimmy McMillen. To the left was Grandma Annie McMillen. Straight forward, the stairs led down to the back yard, "nettie" and coal house.
We turned left into Grandma Mcmillen's house which was also occupied by her widowed daughter, Florrie Farrell, nee Baynes. There was a black coal fired oven and cooking area, heavy plush table cloths, and in the next room, my dead grandma. The year was 1954. I was 3 years old. But my question today is about the streets outside: Wilson Street,Cuthbert Street and Adelaide Street. All I remember of them is that they were bombed (perhaps less so, Adelaide Street). Can anyone correct my memory about the history of the bombings during WW2?
