James Brown & Johanna Brown nee Rizzo - New York City
« on: Friday 10 December 21 00:32 GMT (UK) »
I am looking 3 things with this post.
1. Where and When did James and Johanna die / are buried?
2. Did they have any children?
3. All the ships and records of sailings James was on.

James Brown born 25 Mar 1886 Belfast, Ireland
Johanna Rizzo born 14 Nov 1899 NY, USA

James appears to have been a steward aboard many ships.

He married Johanna Rizzo in 29 Aug 1934 in Manhattan, New York City.
He was granted US Citizenship in 1937

Their last known address in 1942 was 2 Cooper Street, Manhattan, NYC, USA
U.S., World War II Draft Registration Cards

Hope you can help.

Someone who has a newspaper sub may be along soon. Or if you have never signed up before you could take out the free trial on newspapers.com and search for an obituary.

Or this site

They had no children living with them on the 1940 census, at 685 Academy St, Manhattan.

For his arrivals look at:
1892 to 1924
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1368704?collectionNameFilter=false&cid=bl-fsup-8026
1925 and after
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1923888

To help others who are looking. their marriage record says his parents were George Brown and Mary Ann Duncan
hers were Dominic Rizzo and Angelina Fate
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:24DR-35J

An ancestry tree says Angelina's name was Giovanna "Angela" Foti
His parents' names on the marriage agree with his birth on the Civil Reg. in Ireland.

The 1900 Rizzo household had 2 sons who are said (by a tree) to have survived Johanna's marriage. Maybe their obits would mention her as deceased, helping to ID the 1951 death as hers:

Joseph Rizzo (1881 - 1962)
Adolf Rizzo (1884 - 1966)

I believe they both died in the NYC area but I have already closed those tabs.

In case you don't know, the 1950 census is coming out in April 2022, so that might be helpful for this couple.

Great! I just wish the Northern Irish Census of 1936 would be released. But have to wait until 2036  >:(
