Regarding the 'wife Sarah' on the 1871 census with John Poole. I have found a marriage in 1868 for a John Poole to a Sarah Watson, John is down as a widower. The only difference being on this cert Johns father is Abraham Poole, when John married Isabella in 1860 his father was Ralph Poole. From the information that Haywood has just put up about Isabella marrying a Price, i wonder if they both seperated and put widow/widower in order to remarry.
Thankyou Haywood for the info, going off to have a look now xx

The Leamington Prior marriage with father Abraham Poole gives an occupation for that John as a Cordwainer.  Sarah's father was John Watson   :-\

Hi,

Following Heywood's mention of the son Thomas's marriage in 1883 - are you aware of his second marriage on 14 July 1894 at Hulme, Manchester to Annie Jane Drinkwater. One of the witnesses was Archibald Campbell (Isabella's Father)

Thomas and his family can subsequently be found in censuses and 1939 register (occupation Paperhanger, dob 25 Feb 1861), showing his birth as Brookland NY or American. Name sometimes Pool rather than Poole, They have 8 children by 1911.

By listing himself as American, it begs the question did Thomas and his parents go to USA in the early 1860's despite his birth being registered in England - Prescot District March Qtr 1861 Vol 8b Page 497.

Sorry to muddy the waters!!

Alan

PS By the way the reference to Farnworth is Farnworth near Prescot, Widnes and not Farnworth near Bolton. When John Henry Poole married Isabella Campbell on 31 Jan 1860 their addresses were in Widnes.

Hi,

Just a little bit more regarding Thomas George's first wife Florence Maud - she died in Manchester in 1892 age 29. In 1891 she (age 28) and her son Archibald (aged 6, and who was born in Australia) were in Salford, Manchester.

Hi,

A further update - it looks like Sarah Poole (nee Burslem) was born c1838 and died Mar Qtr 1872 Congleton District Vol 8a Page 216 aged 35. Can't find a marriage between John Poole and Sarah Burslem,

On Free BMD daughter Edith is shown as Edith Burslem Poole born Sept Qtr 1870 Vol 6d Page 53.
