Died in The Priory Thames Ditton.
« on: Saturday 18 December 21 14:38 GMT (UK) »
I have a Wallace Llewelyn Roberts  born 1896 who was first in the territorials and then joined the 4 th Batt RWF.
he later had the service number  200283.I know they were sent to France in November 1914 where he was awarded the D.C.M and the M.S.N.
He is listed in the Gazette as W. L Roberts in July 1918.
I can`t find his Army records so can only guess that they were burnt.  Is there any way to find out  what he did to earn his medals.
He died in 1922 in The Priory , Thames Ditton, but was brought home to be buried in Welshpool. He was married with a  young child.
Why would have been in Thames Ditton.
As far as I can find it was a  " Home of Compassion"
Can anyone help please.

Having had a look online, it seems that 'Home of Compassion' was its eventual name, not something it was.

https://ezitis.myzen.co.uk/homeofcompassion.html

According to this link, it started in the Victorian era as a home for abandoned pregnant women, but that evolved over time into something else.

Quote
By 1906 the Home had 10 patients, dying of tuberculosis or sarcoma.  The patients belonged mainly to the Church of England, although one male patient was a Baptist.  Catholic priests were not allowed to enter the premises.

In 1909 the owner of No. 37 decided to sell the property and the Home was obliged to vacate the building.  It moved to a much smaller house with 8 rooms at No. 51 Warrington Crescent, where it had only 6 beds.

In 1912 sufficient funds had been raised to equip the Boyle House Farm in Thames Ditton.  Twelve patients were transferred there from London.

The new Home of Compassion, a Georgian mansion built around 1786, stood in 2 acres of grounds and included stables and outbuildings.    Its main entrance was in Boyle Farm Road.

So this would suggest that Wallace Roberts became ill and was transferred there. Perhaps he was in London for some reason at the time he became ill?
;D Doing my best, but frequently wrong ;D
:-* My thanks to everyone who helps me, you are all marvellous :-*
