Thankyou for confirmation.

The funeral notice is indexed at ryerson as appearing Courier Mail 28 August 2002.   From that notice there would usually be the details for the funeral director, and for the cemetery/crematorium.  Have you considered contacting those organisations and asking for your contact details to be passed on to the people who funded the funeral expenses?

ADD
https://ryersonindex.org/search.php   Notice there is a middle given name in that index.

Peter James HALPIN.

Have you considered asking the Qld State Library to look for the death notice - this is a separate notice from the funeral notice and may have appeared as early as the day after his death in the same daily newspaper as the funeral notice (Courier Mail).  It may well provide family names.   https://www.slq.qld.gov.au/

There is a tree on Family Search which records the a death of a child of Peter,  If you check QLD BDM records for the child's death you will find his parents names
