Lynskey Family Search
« on: Tuesday 21 December 21 00:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi, hope someone can help.  I am looking for the Death place and Date for Anthony Lynskey

He is on the 1901 and 1911 Census aged 70 along with his wife Catherine aged 73 (nee Doyle).  The family were in Crossmolina, County Mayo and a Daughter called Bridget Mary Lynskey, who went on to Marry Thomas Patrick Moylett and they went to live in the US.

Anthony and Catherine Married on 29th January 1873, in Dublin, which is where I assumed Catherine was from.

They then pop up on the 1901 and 1911 Census.  Bridget their Daughter was born in Crossmolina in 1876.

I have Catherine Death cert in Ballina, Mayo.  25th November 1920, widow.  I have checked the surname Lynskey between 1911 and 1920 for death records both Catholic and Civil.  He does not show up.

I can't find where Catherine is buried at all.  I checked online grave headstones etc nothing for either. Assume here it's unmarked but still she has to be recorded where buried?

Anthony and Catherine marriage record I have.  His name along with Catherine is in Latin.  I looked for his name in Latin, nothing.

Anyone help here please?

I simply cannot find a death record for Anthony.

Were they recorded in the 1901/1911 census? was her husband alive then?

she is a widow on her death cert, maybe you could narrow down when her husband might have died
inbetween their marriage / census  / 1920 ?

hope this helps!

Hi.  Done all of that nothing. Ran just surname in Irish Geneology both Catholic and Civil.  Different spellings etc.  I can find Catherine but not Anthony.  Both on the cencus 1991 and 1911.

I believe catherine died on 20th November 1920 Ballina, Mayo.  States she was a widow to labourer.  I checked the 1911 census and her age is nearly spot on and her husband was a labourer.  There was no family witness.  Both children went to the USA and husband had already died.

If I can find where she was buried I may find him.  I checked the burial online records.  Neither are there suspect that it is an unmarked grave.  Somewhere in Mayo.

There is a burial record for her on RootsIreland which states that she was buried in Kilmurray cemetery in Crossmolina. There doesn't seem to be a headstone image on GoldenLangan.com though so her grave may be unmarked.

For others, here's the death record in 1920. She died at Hill Street, Ballina on 25th November. The informant was R Hastings.

Note that Crossmolina is quite a distance from Ballina.

The death of informant for Catherine is R Hastings
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Mayo/Ballina_Urban/Lower_Piper_Hill/699891/

I can’t find a marriage but births of his children show that the mother ‘s maiden name is Lynskey.

Robert and Mary are buried in Leigue cemetery, Ballina

If the children were in US, perhaps this Mary is a niece.

First thing that strikes me is the ages here.

Anthony & Catherine marry in 1873 then a child is born 1876.
In 1901 Catherine's age given as 58 (born c1843) which would put her age at 30 when she married.
Ten years later, in 1911, Catherine has aged 15 years so 35 years old when she married.

It's not uncommon for ages to be incorrect and people often 'aged' more then 10 years between 1901 and 1911 (Old age Pension partly responsible for this as pension age was 70 after it was introduced in 1909).

Daughter Kate Ann Lynskea born 1877- father coachman

Possible death? Catherine Ann Lynskey age 20 at Crossmolina-
