Marcella Kavanagh and John Walsh - help
« on: Tuesday 21 December 21 01:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, ive reached a bit of a brick wall.

My ancestors Marcella Kavanagh and John Walsh married in 1868 in Tallaght, Co.Dublin
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1868/11476/8218281.pdf

they had a child - Anne Walsh in 1876 (mothers name registered as Ellen)
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1876/03046/2116759.pdf

Im at a bit of a loss to be honest, I cant find any more of their children yet im sure they had more.

John Walsh was born in Arklow in 1824 - that was easy enough to find.

I thiiink marcella might have been born in Meath - dublin workhouse records that match up with her parents names and occupations say they were born in Dunboyne.

I think Marcella mightve died in 1879 at age 38 (registered as ellen) , But other than that I genuinley have no other records of this family.

Any help or records of interest would be appreciated. Thanks!

It might be worth checking these census entries.
1901 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Tallagh/Kilnamanagh/1312336/

1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Tallagh/Kilnamanagh/87106/

The child Christina in 1901 is listed as ‘grandaughter’.

Here is a likely birth - mother Marcella and the residence is the same as previous births to Thomas and Marcella
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1899/02041/1781915.pdf

I have tried to find the other births from the census with no luck but you might find them.

This looks like the death of this Marcella Walsh which is very sad and would perhaps be known within the family though  :-\

There are newspaper snippets which indicate that Marcella was shot by her son in law Michael Walsh.

There is a marriage Michael Walsh and Elizabeth Walsh (father John) 1911

Here is a baptismal record in the Kill RC parish registers for a son Peter baptised on 14 March 1869, parents recorded as John Walshe and Marcella Kavana, sponsors John Curran and Mary Curran, with the comment 'Travelling from Rathfarnham' (top of left page):

Here's the civil record:

If this is the death you have, it doesn’t really fit. John is a labourer -this death shows her as ‘wife of a Smith’.

yeah, thats the death i had. what about it that stood out to me is that the address given is "17 new street" . when her daughter married in 1911 (although she wouldve had about 5 kids with this man at this stage) her address is 33 new street. could easily be a coincedence but just stood out to me.

thanks for all of these, will definitley be worth looking into all of them. Yes, i saw that death too, very sad. I had never heard of it in the family but her daughter anne - my direct ancestor - never spoke of her mother much at all according to my grandmother.

edit - Eliza's birth

This is quite interesting to me as Marcella's daughter Anne has a daughter "christina cushnahan" ages 11 in the 1911 census i didnt have any luck finding a birth record for her. Also couldnt find them in the 1901 census either. The chance of thse two being the same could be quite likely.
