You could watch Inspector Morse!  One of the episodes, might even be the first one, was based in that area.  I remember Canal Street or Canal Reach?

Episode is called The Dead of Jericho.  Will give you a look at the area if nothing else  :)
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos

Actually, the "Morse" episodes were the first thing I thought of. That area used to be rather humble, but apparently now it's very desirable and trendy! I think the episode was "The dead of Jericho", from memory, but at least one other spot of filming was in that area.
Happy hunting.

44 is not the House Number on Upper Canal Street.
44 is the Schedule Number on the Census.

See column headings on census page.

And so can you see a house number for the Dulston family at all?

There is no House Number for the Dulston family on the 1871 census.
Also looking at a modern internet map there is only Canal Street, Upper Canal Street is not used.
May be difficult to work out the correct dwelling.
No. 9 Canal St. is the last numbered house before Upper Canal St. on the 1871 census.
