Dutch Baptism - Arnhem
« on: Saturday 25 December 21 23:22 GMT (UK) »
Good day everyone, I am hoping someone will be able to assist.

I am searching for a baptism for Ferdinand Hartzenberg who is stated in records as being from Arnhem. Based on his year of marriage he was likely born in the 1750s. I have had no luck with baptisms.

I have found that there was a Jan Hortzenberg who married a Hendrina Helders in Arnhem in 1751. But have also not managed to find a single baptism attributed to this couple.

Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

No conclusive answer, but I found the following family in Arnhem:

Gerret/Gerrit HARTZENBERG
X Anna Maria HEG(G)EMANS
-
Arnhem - Lutheran baptisms:
Gerada bap 30 Sep 1742 - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-89WK-G4QD?i=123
Catrijna bap 13 Feb 1735-  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-99WK-G4JH?i=117

Notes:
1 - Of course birth location and baptism location do not have to be the same place and “Van Arnhem” could mean that he’d lived there for some time i.e. it is possible that he wasn’t born there .
2 – To help your search, it is always a good idea to supply religion and names of children ... i.e. could Ferdinand’s third son Gerrit have been named after his grandfather

Hi TreeSpirit, thanks for the input

Unfortunately religion is nothing to go by as the Company only allowed the legal practice of the Dutch Reformed faith in their territories, so the could have been any religion prior to their settlement.

I think it is very possible that he was not originally from Arnhem, my goal here is to find sufficient proof to exclude these families as possibilities.

Could your guy have been abt 10 years older?

Here is a “Ferdinandus Hertzenberg” baptized on 26 March 1741 and son of the same couple ….

Yes this is very possible as the 1750s is roughly estimated based on the year he married, but it is very possible that he may have been older, that would have made him 36 at the time of his marriage but that is not unlikely considering that he was serving as a soldier prior to this.
