Hunslet, Leeds Photo with no info
« on: Saturday 01 January 22 18:37 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone find any info in the picture please? All I know is that it was in my great grandma's collection. She grew up and lived all her life in Hunslet, Leeds, and so did nearly every member of her family.

Is the uniform and army one or is it maybe a band uniform?

Any help would be appreciated.

Bringing this up in case it gets missed.

My first thought was Salvation Army or a brass band. I don't think it's military. Did Hunslet have a brass band?

PS - I see that it has some surface damage. Would you like it repaired?

I wondered whether it was the Fire Brigade. In days gone by many organisation and companies had bands but I cannot seem to find many photographs relevent to Leeds. The cap badge would probably be the best thing to try and identify.

I've had a good search as well, Crumblie, but nothing obvious found.

BenRalph ~ is it possible to scan just the badge and medal  using a larger resolution?

I will try and get a better scan of it but the photo may have gone back to my grandma's house and I'll have to ask her to use it again but it won't be until next week if so.

I am not aware of any brass band anywhere in Hunslet at any time.

Yes a restoration would be good please.

Thanks all.

A first attempt from me. A larger scan would be nice  :)

I'm wondering if it was one of the Temperance brass bands?

According to this paper, there was at one time a Hunslet Temperance Brass Band, as well as others nearby that he could have been a member of. If you scroll to the end of the paper, it's on the list of extinct brass bands.

There are a few photographs in the paper with uniforms that are not exactly the same as the one you have shared, but not so dissimilar as to rule out the possibility.
