Henry Puttock/Puttick and Ann/Anne Duke
« on: Monday 03 January 22 14:09 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping someone here may be able to help me track down potential christenings for these  two people who were married at Wisborough Green in 1691.

I think Henry may have been born in Fernhurst, son of Richard Moon, in 1662 as so far this seems to be the only christening I can find within a reasonable distance from Wisborough Green.

So far I cannot find any sign of Ann though. I know there are Duke families in Wisborough Green and Billingshurst as I have found several wills for that name linked to those parishes but all bar one predates 1671.

Any suggestions for Ann would be welcomed as would any other ideas or thoughts/confirmations regarding Henry.

Many thanks everyone.

Matt

Just a quick update to my original post.

At the moment I don't know when/where Henry Puttock was born although I suspect it was around 1700 as he married Elizabeth Moon at Wisborough Green in 1723.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry Moon and Ann Duke who were married at Wisborough Green in 1691. Henry Moon may have been born in Fernhurst in 1662, the son of Richard Moon. So far this seems to be the only christening I can find within a reasonable distance from Wisborough Green.

So far I cannot find any sign of Ann though. I know there are Duke families in Wisborough Green and Billingshurst as I have found several wills for that name linked to those parishes but all bar one predates 1671.

So far the only christening I can find for a Henry Puttock is in Kirdford in 1713, but obviously at 10 he'd be too young to be marrying in 1723.

Many thanks everyone.

Matt

There is possibly a Henry Puttick, son of John baptised at Kirdford  8 Jun 1701

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6259-MKV?i=65&cc=1465706

You need to adjust the image to bring out the writing.

Possibly another Henry in July 1703, but the writing is very faded  :(

Thanks for those Nell. I've looked at both entries on both the parish registers and the bishops transcripts, which thankfully are clearer.

The 1702 christening for Henry Puttock/Puttick son of John can be seen here

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-DRJ9-6SY?i=717&cat=68648

The 1703 christening is again for Henry Puttock/Puttick son of John

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-DRJ9-H4M?i=719&cat=68648

At the bottom of this page there is a burial for Henry son of John Puttick so it looks like that Henry may have died. Oddly on the previous page there is a burial which seems to read "Henry son of Puttock" [see attachment]

So did that Henry christened in 1701 die? The 1702 christening looks like a potential candidate but that burial entry has puzzled me. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks again for the ideas and help

This also gives his wife's name as Elizabeth.
At the bottom of that page there is also a marriage for Henry Puttick and Emma Randoll

Very difficult since that burial record does not give a father's first name, but it should be considered.

The baptism on 12th September 1703 has the mother's name as Mary.

More questions to answer.

Definitely more questions to answer, and possibly a bigger puzzle. Given that the Henry I am investigating was married in 1723 it seems plausable that he was born around about this time, certainly not much later. Alternatively perhaps he was older?

The marriage between Henry and Emma may be worth following up, especially to see if they had a son who could fit the bill.

I'll see what else I can dig up. There are a number of post 1700 wills for Puttocks in Kirdford [indexed on Ancestry's UK Extracted Probate database] which should be viewable on Familysearch but I can't access them online at home [despite having an account]. Hopefully when I get to the National Archives next I can check them out there.

Many thanks again

Matt
