Locating a burial site for Jonathan Postle born 1838
« on: Monday 03 January 22 20:27 GMT (UK) »
I have visitors here from Canada who are hoping to locate and visit the grave of one of our relatives Jonathan Postle born 1838 in Medomsley, Lanchester, married to Margaret Dorothy Postle born 1842 in Jarrow.  Any pointers in how to locate will be gratefully received.

You need to know when and where he died first - have you established a death record for him or have the death certificate?

Found the couple on the 1891 census in Iveston, County Durham.
Margaret seems to have left for the US in 1892, with three children but not with Jonathan. Her occupation is listed as wife however.
She can be found in Illinois in the 1900 US census as a widow.
So Jonathan died sometime between 1891 and 1900.

Have found his death date - alas, to try to find his grave you'll need to head for Illinois, USA!  Find A Grave shows he was buried 1900 at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, Braceville, Grundy County, Illinois and Margaret and children are living there in 1900 Census (she already a widow).

Margaret and 3 of their children left Liverpool for New York on the 'Majestic' on 30/11/1892 - can only assume Jonathan had gone on ahead.

There is a grave for a Jonathan Matthews Postle born 1838 died 1900 at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Grundy County, Illinois.
Braceville is where Margaret is located on the 1900 US census.
So it seems he died in Illinois.
