Ah, I see Jonathan JONES was a malster on Thomas's baptism on 13 Apr 1800.

How certain are you that this is your Thomas' parents? There is also a Thomas JONES baptised at Pendleton on 5 May 1799, son of Samuel JONES and Margaret.  :-\

Their daughter Rosannah Jones b.1832/3 was bapt.10th Feb 1833 at St Mary's Cof E Eccles & she married Robert Burgess.but at St Thomas,Pendleton Salford I think Thomas possible started work with his father Jonathon who was also a Malster.Thomas was b.Prestwich,Manchester but also baptised at St Mary's Cof E Eccles.

I know this church very well as I am also an Eccles girl. The church was used by people from a lot of the surrounding towns/villages years ago.

I'm still not quite sure why you  think Thomas, the father of Rosanna born 1833 was a brewer? On her baptism it says father was a dyer, and on her marriage in 1860 it has her father Thomas, a dyer.  :-\

Do you have anything definite to link Thomas to the Jonathan JONES, malster of Prestwich as appears on the 13 April 1800 baptism?

The searches I am doing are for my son from my previous marriage. My son had been passed a lot of papers which an older family member (now deceased) had been carrying out family research on. It is from there that Thomas Jones is described as a Malster & that he was born in Prestwich,Manchester.
With respect to the person who had been doing this work & was an older member of my sons paternal family I may have made an error in thinking it was correct as I would have thought they would have more knowledge of their own family.
My son is eager to know about his ancestors & that is why he ended up with the papers given to him by his deceased fathers family who have no interest whatsoever in this.
I do apologise if this has caused any inconvenience in all your hard work. :( :-[

I hope I didn't give offense, it's a habit to question everything when it comes to family history! Especially with such a common name.

I was going to do a bit more looking, thanks heywood for confirming at least that Thomas son of Samuel is out of the running.  :)

I said earlier that the 1851 census had Thomas born Pendleton, however as the page is so hard to read I had another look. I don't think it is Pendleton, but not sure what it might be. The children are born Pendleton, but the parents are somewhere different.  :-\ Maybe Thomas (the top line here) is Prestwich?

Well Maddy,I have a very strong magnifier & I have tried to see what it says but it is difficult.
It could be Prestwich but then again it maybe something beginning with a B. I am really undecided???
