Any help identifying regiment or date of Thomas Luke Green
« on: Thursday 06 January 22 03:23 GMT (UK) »
This is (probably) a picture of my great grandfather, he was Thomas Luke Green born in 1900, living between Ireland and Surrey so not sure where he was at this point. I can see a vague shape of his badge on his cap but can't identify it. It would also be great if anyone could guess an approximate date. I've never found any evidence of him fighting in WW1, but there is an old family rumour of involvement in the Irish War of Independence. Any information would be greatly appreciated, as I know very little about military history!
Thanks

Royal West Surrey Regt. (The Queens) c. WW1.
Could be later as this style of uniform was in use up to the mid 30's.
I don't think it's as late as that because the photo type looks more
WW1-1920's.
The 1st. Btn. were in Londonderry 1920 as part of the pre-independence
security operation.
If this is post 1920 which I suspect it is his service record will be with the MOD.
You can request a copy but it will cost 30 + a long wait.

The cap badge design changed circa 1924 so it is not later than that.
