French marriages - in Latin
« on: Saturday 08 January 22 02:43 GMT (UK) »
There are two entries here for 'Egidius' Carlier, one straight after the other.
One in 1700, and one in 1702.
The first marriage is to Catherine de Restenner?, and the second to Marguerita Beauvoir.

I've found out 'Egidius' is the name 'Gilles'.

I would be grateful for a transcription and translation if possible, and if anybody can work out all the interlined additions in the second one, that would be great.

Thank you very much

I'm struggling with a few names: unsure of what I found, and unable to read a few others.
What's been written between the lines is
matrimonio Carlier
Carlier et #et

It looks to me that this was first written as a draft or reminder, and than later the full text was written above and beneath it. It doesn't add extra information.
1700
Die decima sexta martii in facie
ecclesiae facta trium bannorum
publicatione et cum dispensatione
temporis matrimonio iuncti
sunt Aegidius Carlier et Cathe-
rina de Lestenne, testes fuerunt
Anthonius Carlier, Magdelena
Gerin et Joanna Cornil.

1702
Die octava januarii in facie
ecclesiae facta trium bannorum
iuncti sunt matrimonio Aegidius Carlier
et Margareta Beauvoir
... testibus presentibus
... Gerin, Jenne du
Jardin et Simon ...

In English:
On 16 March 1700 were married before the Church, after publication of the 3 banns and temporal dispensation, Gilles Carlier and Catherine de Lestenne, witnessed by Antoine Carlier, Magdalene Gerin and Joanne Cornil.

On 8 january 1702 were married before the Church, after 3 banns, Gilles Charlier and Marguerite Beauvoir ..., witnessed by ... Gerin, Jenne du Jardin and Simon ...

Many thanks Zefiro.

I'll have to look for the burial of Catherine Lestenne between 1700 and 1702.
I have to say I'm finding the viewing of these films on the pas de Calais website something of a trial. They obviously use a different film reader set-up than the one on familysearch, and to say it is slow and tedious is something of an understatement! Unfortunately, although familysearch have the films for most of these little places in France, they are not yet digitised, so the only place to view them I can see is on pas de Calais archives. Most of them are not indexed, so it is a very slow slog through them.

An online tree gives the date date of death of Catherine DELESTIENNE (sic) as 7 August 1701 at Ciply, Mons, Hainaut, Wallonie, Belgique, which may be worth following up.
