All very frustrating.

If replacing a wire doesn't resolve the issue, then I'm left resorting to googling, so this may not be of further help, and others may have better suggestions.

Several sites have similar lists of items to check, most of which you have already done - but for reference:
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/no-scanners-were-detected-windows-10

The below page has some further suggestions
https://thegeekpage.com/how-to-fix-scanner-not-working-in-windows-10/

It looks like a wireless link can cause problems, but if you are connecting only through a cable, perhaps not yours.

Hope it gets resolved soon.

Thank you. I don't use it a lot but good to know it's there when I need it. I am sure it will get resolved eventually

Hi,  I had an e mail from Canon this morning with instructions to uninstall the printer and download I J Scan Utility, then reinstall it. I printed it off and studied it then thought  here goes,  then noticed that the red error message on the display window had changed to Updates are Available on settings. So I went into settings and had a mess and its working fine again!! Can't get my breath.  Thanks for all your help
