1905 Birth - Not registered

I have my Grandfathers exact date of birth from his death certificate and the 1939 register, and living relatives confirmation. I can't however find his birth registration to get his birth certificate. I have found his baptism though.
He was born in 1905 - would it have been likely in those times that his birth might not have been registered?

He should be registered.
Have you searched just by surname, in case there is no name or a different one.
There could be a spelling error.
Are other children in the family registered?
Do you have him in 1911 with his family?

Do you have his parents marriage, could he have been born before that and registered under his mother’s maid name?

Could you give us his name so we can have a look as well?

If his parents were unmarried for example he could be under mothers surname.

Hi everyone and thanks for replying. have tried just surname and no luck. His baptism and date of birth are shown in Manchester, England Church of England Births and Baptisms but I can't find a civil registration of his birth. He may have had a younger brother but have so far been unable to locate him at all.   I have his parents names etc from the baptism and 1911 census but its just frustrating not to be able to get hold of his birth certificate. His parents were married 3 months before his birth.

so he is Edwin Walker born 29/9/1905 in Manchester England. Father Thomas, Mother Sarah

Could he have been registered as Edward!
 Edward Walker mmn Hutton .Manchester 1905 vol 08D page 248 4th quarter.

I've got another Edwin in my tree (also a WALKER!) that is interchangeably Edward.

Oh guys thank you that has to be him as the mmn is correct. Stupidly I didn't think to search Edward as his name was definitely Edwin although he was always known as Grandad Eddie during my childhood.
