Missing great-grandfather 1911 AND 1921 censuses
« on: Sunday 09 January 22 15:01 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

When my grandadís dad wasnít on the 1911 Census, I thought perhaps there was a transcription error, or he was absent or something. When the 1921 Census was released, I was amazed to find no sign of him there either, despite being creative with the search terms!

His name was David Lipman, born 05/09/1878 in Mile End Old Town, Middlesex. He is last seen on the 1901 Census, at 32 Tylney Road in Forest Gate, Essex, with his parents Benjamin and Mary Lipman. He worked as a boot & shoe finisher, and shows up - after 21 years - on a 1922 electoral roll as Richard Lipman in Clerkenwell (he was known as ĎDickí because he was obsessed with Dick Turpin) before his name is corrected to David Lipman.

If anyone could help me at all, Iíd greatly appreciate it. He didnít have my grandad till 1939, so thereís no-one around who might know anecdotally where he was. He married my grandadís mum, the former Florence Sarah Irene Pepper, in 1935. My grandad said he was rejected for WW1 service due to a heart problem, but beyond that has no clue of his whereabouts at the time. My guess would be the Empire somewhere, but I really donít know.

The address was 33 Claremont Square until 1924, then 7 Claremont Mews, before his sister Kate (Kathleen) joined him in 1929.

I hadnít seen this. A common-law marriage perhaps? It says born Marylebone which doesnít make sense. Do you have the exact address?

Is the address for Richard Lipman 33 Claremont Square on 1922 ER
Other surname at that address Geloso

Do an address search on 1921c or try surname Lipsman
