Thanks everyone.

If Arthur finished working for the railway in 1921 perhaps he moved somewhere else, possibly even another state. Can't find them in NZ so they did not come here as far as I can find.

Are the NSW electoral rolls available online or only at NSW State Library.

NSW State Library has hardcopy of the NSW electoral rolls, and the ones in the 1920s are excellent for family history buffs.  Ask a Librarian.  https://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/research-and-collections/ask-librarian
......

You can use that option from NZ .  They may be "working from home" at present.

Re "Joe"

I have read your current thread on the NZ board,  and  the newspaper cutting where "Joe" inserted the memorial notice.   There is no mention of Joe having a partner or children or of residing anywhere ..... she may have returned to NZ.

NSW Electoral rolls for 1920s are not currently online, but 1930s and to 1980s are, (and similar for most of the other states,) via commercial family history websites.

Evening Post 11 May 1934 page 1
Five IM notices for William WATSON, DD 11 May 1933.

The fifth one reads:

WATSON In loving memory of Dad, who passed away May 11, 1933..  Inserted by Joe.

As mentioned earlier. I notice that some of the IMs show inserted by his loving daughter and son in law or son and daughter in law, but the one noting it was Inserted by Joe makes no mention of her partner.

Often when IMs were an important way to acknowledge the anniversary, those sent from overseas to NSW newspapers could appear a day or so 'earlier' or 'later'.

Another thought ... was the IM lodged by their mum on behalf of Joe .... but besides those concerns, I do think it is significant that there is NO mention of a partner for Joe in that IM

Thanks JM, but have already discounted that one. She died in Dunedin, and her husband's name was Alexander.

Right,

When her mum died, Annie was either already deceased OR she was living in Wellington NZ.

Evening Post 19 August 1941 page 4
Obituary
Mrs E Watson .

She is survived by three daughters and a son, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild, all resident in Wellington.
