1939 record on Ancestry but not FindMyPast?
« on: Monday 10 January 22 11:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi Could anyone tell me why a record can be found in Ancestry but not in FindMyPast? All my information up to now I have found in FindMyPast with the exception of one in the 1939 register. My grandparents Walter (b1883)and Connie (Constance) b1893)Chambers are not found in FindMyPast. I am trying to list all the records I need before subscribing again so really want the info from FindMyPast.
I have hopefully attached the photos

They are on FindMyPast but surname has been transcribed as Chanbus!

Thank you So much Annette that is exactly right! I stupidly didn't think to search for variants to the surname!

1939 records are redacted for 100 years unless there is proof of death.

If you are certain of the identity of the person that the closed record relates to and they are dead, you can apply for it to be opened. If you are a FindMyPast subscriber, you can do it for free via the link on their site when viewing the page image, called "Open closed record" or similar. You will need to upload a copy of the appropriate death certificate and state your connection to the person. Alternatively, you can request opening of the record through the National Archives, but there is a fee in that case. With the recent opening of the 1921 census on FindMyPast and their continuing work to correct transcriptions, I wouldn't hold your breath over how long it might take though.

Just wondering if I search for the address which is given as Four Ashes Cottage Dorridge Solihull (I know it was in Four Ashes Road) I can't find it even though it was on the Connie Chanbus search?

I think an address search requires a road/street name so try searching on Four Ashes Road, rather than Cottages.
