Free Family Tree Sites
« on: Tuesday 11 January 22 00:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello to you all from South Australia.

A little while back someone listed sites to download one's tree to, which I cannot locate.

I have several trees on An...try. but in this current climate plus being retired and having a husband who can't work due to covid, I cannot afford to keep going with them.

Can someone point me to other sites?

Thankyou in anticipation,
Chris

I use Tribal Pages. It is simple to use and free. You can pay a subscription which gives more features and flexibility.

There are others such as Family Historian which are a one off purchase. Used to be a CD but now online and downloadable with free upgrades I believe. You would need to check to confirm. It is a very good program but a bit too complex for me.  :)

I also started a tree on Tribal Pages, it's easy to work with.

It depends on what you're aiming for e.g. matches or just somewhere to keep your tree & be able to access it?

Thankyou Ruskie and Annie.

Well to be able to match would be great, however I do have heaps of info on my main tree and just to access it would be good.

I do have a tree on Family Search, but like many people find it hard to navigate, change persons details and it really is never belonging to you, as others can do the same.
The old version was my cup of tea!

I guess if I have an access only tree I can always pop over to FS to find other stuff.

Shall definitely have a look.

Thanks again,
Chris

You can keep your tree on Ancestry, and add to it without paying anything, you just can't look at the records etc. and they will keep sending you hints to tempt you to do so.

Zoompast is free.
https://www.zoompast.com

You can upload multiple trees, and invite people to view them.  People need to register (it's free) and then they can access any trees for which they have received invitations.

I have uploaded my own tree split into two, paternal and maternal sides, so my cousins can see whichever side is relevant for them.  I also use it for trees I have done for other people, it's a convenient way to share them.
UK census content is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk  Transcriptions are my own.
