Find a grave, West Derby Cemetery, Liverpool
« on: Tuesday 11 January 22 19:40 GMT (UK) »
I have found a burial record for George Reid buried 23 July 1913 at West Derby Cemetery, Unconsecrated Ground, section 5 plot 282.
However I cannot find any record on the ‘Find a Grave’ site. Could this be because the grave no longer exists or records are incomplete?
Any advice much appreciated.
Reid in Roxburghshire, McLoughlin in Castlebar, Mullin in Mayo,
Golden in Newry, Garvey in Belfast, Keane in Dublin.

Find a grave relies on volunteers to add memorials.

No guarantee that any particular cemetery has anywhere near a complete set

Because he purchased the grave does not mean there is a headstone.  No headstone - no entry on Findagrave

Have you contacted the Records Office to ask if there is a headstone?  Large numbers of headstones have been removed as "unsafe" over the years

What were you hoping to find from the grave

He can be found on the 1911 census - same address as on burial record.

All,
Thanks for the replies. I have not found a record to confirm the grave was marked with a stone. I was hoping to find a memorial to my 2nd great grandfather that I could visit.

If you are able to visit the cemetery you already have the exact location of the grave so it should be relatively easy to find. It is a huge cemetery but there is a map of where each section is. We found the one we were looking for very easily and as a bonus the adjacent grave was another relative.

Liverpool Central Library 3rd Floor Archive Dept hold for each Cemetery a Map/Plan of the Cemetery layout which you can photocopy there.
They also hold a Plan of each Section within that Cemetery with each numbered plot shown within that Section

Find a Grave is a limited resource there are better ones for Liverpool cemeteries that have inscriptions. The volunteer gravestone inscription site below contains inscriptions for that cemetery but it's not listed
