Abraham/Robinson Marriage
« on: Wednesday 12 January 22 17:23 GMT (UK) »
I would love to find out where and when Ruth Ayliff Robinson, the daughter of Lt Col MacLeod Bawtree Robinson of Pound Hall, Long Melford, Suffolk (1858-1935) married Arthur Abraham before emigrating in 1913 to Vargas Island in BC, Canada to join her husband, a rancher. Sadly, he as a Capt with the 23rd Bantam Battalion of the Manchester Regiment was killed in WW1, he received the Military Cross. Ruth returned to Pound Hall in 1919 as a widow. She left Montreal on the ship Melita arriving back in the U.K. on the 9th November 1919. Her brother in law Edward Abraham was my great uncle also living on Vargas Island, but thankfully survived the war and took my great aunt Dorothy Abraham (nee ALLARD) as a war bride. Information on Ruth and Arthur’s marriage would be most appreciated. Thank you in anticipation.

I have seen that marriage, but it just makes very little sense as she emigrated in 1913 and then returned in 1919 as a widow!

I think this is her going to Canada to visit the in laws in 1918

Ruth Abraham
Gender:   Female
Arrival Age:   29
Birth Year:   abt 1889
Birth Country:   South Africa
Departure Port:   Liverpool, England
Arrival Date:   17 Mar 1918

Where did you get the info that she emigrated in 1913.  She would still have been Robinson in 1913

On the passenger listing for 17/3/1918 she is shown as a widow and that she had been in BC before in 1912 for 3 years.
