Looking for my BURKE family
« on: Wednesday 12 January 22 23:07 GMT (UK) »
Searching for the family of my GGF Patrick Burke (1855-1940)
He was born and died in Adelaide, and had at least 7 children in SA with Annie Gooley (1853-1923). Married c1878 but not registered.
They were buried in the same plot with John Patrick Burke (1838-1925) (a brother?)

Hi Dave,
Why don't you start by listing -

The births in order with date and deaths and place you know of.
Addresses and occupations  of any of the family
The information you have  learned from any certificates.

Have you had a good search here?

Trying to find Patrick’s parents in particular, also any brothers or sisters.

Probably goes without saying, but they were definitely Irish Burkes.
Family lore says from county Kerry, but no proof of that.

Pats occupation was bullock driver and labourer.
His death record lists 10 children (1M, 4F living, 3M 2F deceased)
I have found seven, but the other three (2 deceased M, 1 deceased F) appear to be unregistered, with no trove references.

Ellen (Nell) 1878-1947  b. Crystal Brook
Rosina 1880-1955  b. Booleroo
John Francis 1884-1915  b. Willochra
Anne Marie Myra 1887-1963 b. Adelaide
Francis Edward 1891-1935  b. Adelaide
Dorothy Margaret 1893-1898  b. Adelaide
Hilda Catherine 1896-1978  b. Adelaide

Yes, those are the burials.
Wow, the hospital records are an amazing resource that I didn’t know about.
Will definitely look for other Burkes. Thank you!

Other BURKEs arriving on the "Adamant", with age +/- ~ 10 years of your Patrick would be worth considering to be possibly male siblings of your GGF Patrick Burke, died 1940, Adelaide.

If there are female BURKE siblings to find in the hospital records they would likely be married, so not listed as BURKE.

As well as searching for BURKEs, you should search for females identified as arriving on the "Adamant" with age +/- ~ 10 years of your Patrick and account for them by marriages, SA, or deaths, SA to see if they are BURKEs.

Perhaps I am not reading this well, but if the above John BURKE was 87 at his death in 1925, he was born in 1838.
