My try. :)

Many thanks Peter :-)
My late Ma in law always said he was a lovely man though she didn't have any photos of him.
I just wish I'd had this newspaper image when she was alive and been able to show it and the results you all produce in here to her.
Though I am over the moon with the photo and restores, they would have been extra special for her as she knew him and and had fond memories of him.

Do you have the original paper? If so scanning it in and setting the document type to "Newspaper" may eliminate some of the noise in the scan which should improve the quality of the restorations

Thanks
Cliff

Hi Cliff,
no I don't have the original (and don't know if the person who sent it has it either)
And not sure my scanner is posh enough to have a 'newspaper' setting but will investigate.

Though I have a longstanding love-hate relationship with printers and scanners - I love what they can do and they hate me! I have lost count of the number of times over the years when they seem to resolutely refuse to work for me, so, on the whole, if they do the straightforward stuff without a lot of faffing about I am grateful :-)
