What can be learnt from this photo ? Great Uncle Robert Hardy

A photo of my Great Uncle Robert Hardy. He was in service as a footman in 1911 to Sir Arthur George Weigal MP. He was in the RFA 1914 - 1918 . On returning to blighty no job. 1921 boot cleaning at Harrow School. Died od Cancer in 1923. What can be leant from his photo attached. ?

I would think this was taken when he was a footman to Sir Arthur George Weigal MP  between 1911 and 1914.

The image you posted looks like it is part of a larger photo. If you post the entire photo it might give some context, and there might be more clues to be found.

The coat ,rather like a dust coat ,top hat and gloves make me wonder about carriage drivers or even a chauffeur on dusty country roads in the open cars around that time, is it a stock  he is wearing ,like horseriders sometimes still do.

Just a thought.

 maybe of interest to you, it could be your Great Uncle was a 1st. Footman as apposed to a 2nd or 3rd, it looks like he is wearing cuffs and studs under his dust coat.  He certainly has a military bearing.
