Alfred Barber and Elizabeth Johnson - lancashire
« on: Friday 14 January 22 09:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi All, Ive hit a bit of a brick wall and was hoping someone could help move me forward.  Its concerning an Alfred Barber born about 1867 Manchester, and an Elizabeth Johnson born around 1862 Congleton, Lancashire.  Im trying to find out their parentage.

What I do know is about their children so far.

Thomas Henry Barber
1891–

Alice Mary Barber 1893–1976- She Married William N Griffin 1890–1945
BIRTH JULY 1890 • Manchester, Lancashire, England
DEATH 22 DECEMBER 1945

Alfred James Barber
1898–

Elizabeth Mary Barber
1899–1983

Cecilia Barber
1900–1971

Alfred and Elizabeth married 1889.
Name Elizabeth Johnson
Registration Year 1889 Registration Quarter Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration district Manchester Inferred County Lancashire Volume 8dPage408 Records on Page 4

Any help in identifying the parantage of both alfred and Elizabeth would be gratefully received as I have been stuck for a while and elizabeth is proving particularly difficult.  Thanks

FreeBMD have a birth registration in June quarter 1866 - Manchester Registration District - Alfred Thomas Barber.  GRO gives a mother's maiden name of Nugent.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

As far as the 1889 marriage is concerned, you will have to purchase the certificate - LancashireBMD say that the marriage venue was "Register Office or Registrar Attended".

Assuming I've found the correct birth registration, there is a marriage - March quarter 1864 - Chorlton RD - Thomas Barber and Mary Nugent - "Register Office or Registrar Attended".

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I did see this gro entry for mmn Nugent.  However, none of Alfreds records have mentioned the name Thomas so I dont know if this is the Alfred Im after.

1881 3999 /80/ 39

Thomas Barber   41 yrs
Mary Barber 41 yrs
Alfred F. Barber   14 yrs
Joseph H. Barber 13 yrs
Mary A. Barber 12 yrs

This is the Barber/Nugent family. Alfred has been transcribed as Alfred ‘F’. The initial could be ‘T’. I can’t find the record on Family Search to see how it has been transcribed.

They all seem to have transcribed it as "F" but I'm not convinced  :-\
