There is a newspaper article about the suicide of Samuel Denton aged 70, blacksmith of St Paul's Cray in 1840.

So were there 2 Samuel Dentons who were blacksmiths?

So the Samuel who committed suicide, very sadly - in 1840 was 70 years old. Birth year therefore c.1770.

A Samuel Denton was born in Chiddingstone on 5th Dec 1770 to a Thomas Denton and Mary.

Another one was baptised 14 Aug 1796 in Sundridge (no birth date shown) - parents John Denton and Mary.

There are no other baptisms recorded in the Kent baptisms, between those years (unless they are mis-transcribed).

A Jane Denton, wife of Samuel Denton, was buried at Sundridge on 28th March 1800 - no age given.

This is likely to be the Jane Hoskins who a Samuel Denton had married on 9th Feb 1797 in Sundridge.

On the face of it - this Samuel is possibly the widower who married the widow Elizabeth Jenkins in Lee, St Margaret in 1811.
