I'm trying to find a birth registration for my grandmother .She was born 1894/95 in Gateshead .

She appears as Ellen Watson in the 1901 census(attached) as a daughter, born 1895, with what could be her parents Sophia Watson ( nee Wall ) and William Watson .
Sophia and Wm married in 1899.
Ellen is on the 1911 census with Wm and Sophia who say they have been married for 18 years and have one child .

I have a confirmation certificate and a National Identity card in the name of Nellie Watson . But her marriage certificate shows her as Margaret (amended on cert to Marguerite) Ellen Wall .After marriage census show her as Marguerite Ellen .Her passport ,obtained after marriage ,quotes her maiden name as Wall .

Which makes me think that there must be documentation showing her as a Wall ,if there were no records /birth reg then why not marry in the name Watkins ?

I can find a baptism of a Margarita Wall (attached)with a mother Sophia ,born 1894 and baptised 08/05/ 1895.Marguerite's passport and the 1939 reg gives dob as 03/05/1894.

The baptism entry has the name Sophia Latinised ( correct term ) so that it ends ae .Does that indicate a Roman Catholic baptism ? This wouldn't fit with protestant low church family.

Oh dear ,I've failed in my effort to be clear and brief .

Oh ,and Marguerite's mother Sophia Wall had a boy in 1888 ,George Campbell Wall ,this was prior to her daughter's birth .She is described as a single woman on the transcription of the baptism record .

Little George died when he was 3 .

Sorry ,I should have said I've looked at that entry and have the birth certificate .I can't tie it to Gateshead or Sophia .I've tried to see if the father in that cert was closely related to the Walls in Gateshead ,but no joy .I've also looked to see if the mother died .But again ,no joy .

I'll look again and track the Margaret Ellen mentioned to see if she appears elsewhere .

Thank you!

Date of birth from that Gateshead baptism is 3 May 1894
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NLDB-YYX

So birth should have been registered in the June quarter.

Very odd.
This has come up before (2020) from same OP

In which Jen brought up the Walls birth registration

Have you dismissed Margaret Ellen Walls, born 2nd q. 1894, Gateshead 10a, 905?

Oh thank you for being so understanding that means a lot to me .
I really feel a fool and cross with myself .
I had a lot going on at the time and clearly got distracted .Also I am prone to going round in circles ,and never taking the most straightforward approach .

I had not realised that the family search gives the full date of birth for bptsm/christening and actual birth .It's a clincher because the birth date matches 1939 reg and personal documents that I have .
And I must remember to mark "other spellings" for surnames .Seems obvious now .

So I've learned 2 things ! A good start to a foggy Saturday .Thank you and all the other generous posters on here .
