Welcome to RootsChat!!

Have you seen the marriage entry - 1 December 1879 - George Hollings, aged 23 and I think a Tailor, and Ann Barker, aged 21.  Both signed the register, and witnesses were Edward Barker and Mark Parker.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Welcome to Rootschat from me also.

I don't know if this is your George - but a George Hollings of Tadcaster left a Will in July 1842.
You would be able to order this from the Borthwick Institute in York (it used to cost £10 - but I am not sure of the present rate).

If you subscribe to Find My Past - you can order via their site actually - through the Probate records for the Prerogative and Exchequer Courts of York dataset.

Alternatively contact the Borthwick direct

Having just checked the Death Register at the General Register Office - the death of the George in Tadcaster in 1842 - he was supposedly 51 years old -- giving an approx birth year of 1791.

So, if the person registering the death had his age correct (and they didn't always know exactly!) - then it may not be your George who left the Will. A coincidence though, as in 1841 a George Hollings, a Tailor was in Tadcaster - and you would have thought this younger George would have followed in the footsteps of his father, George. who was a Tailor at his marriage in 1779 in Tadcaster.

Hi spendlove,

Yes - I thought the Tailor in 1841 might be the George who died in 1842. With the William you found also being a Tailor, I wonder if they were both the sons of George senior. I must confess I haven't looked for George senior's other children.

I did see a baptism in Tadcaster for who might be George senior - and his father also appears to be yet another George!! This was in 1756 and the surname shown as Hollins'. Unfortunately no occupation shown for this one.

Hi,

George Hollings born 1786 to George & Ann Hollings died in 1787.

The register per FindMyPast with image states

George Hollings, the son of George Hollings (the younger) of Tadcaster, Taylor by Ann daughter of Emmanuel Barker of Hutton, Farmer.
Died 6th October, buried 8th October in the churchyard. Aged 1 year of Small Pox.

Per Ancestry with image

George and Ann had another child who they named George.

George son of George and Ann Hollings bpt., 29th December 1790.

This ties in with the George in the 1841 census who died 1842.

Do you have access to Ancestry or find my past

I have access to both, Spendlove - I am a nerd (not that it helps me get everything correct!)

So gagdoc, the person with the query, has found the first baptism hence quoting 1786.
Good find re the burial and then the baptism of George number 2, Spendlove.
