You clever girl Rosie -  :)
found this
Marriage: 17 Jul 1844 St John, Preston, Lancashire, England
Henry Baldwin - 32, Engineer, Bachelor, St. Ignatius Square
Hannah Darby - 23, Spinster, St. Ignatius Square
Groom's Father: Late Corless Baldwin, Farmer
    Bride's Father: George Darby, Farmer
    Witness: John Bosworth; Jane Bosworth

so Henry born 1812 looks like the first born to Corless and Hester

BUT - Corless died 1847 - this is 1844 and says LATE Corless Baldwin
IS THERE TWO Corless Baldwin around ??

HELP Rosie ...lol

Just in case I missed seeing this worked out, but the 1844 death was a 3 yr. old, so you might still be on track!

BALDWIN, CORLIS
GRO Reference: 1844  J Quarter in ST GILES IN THE FIELDS & ST GEORGE BLOOMSBURY  Volume 01  Page 49

No luck finding the GRO birth for this child, but there is a baptism in 1840 of a Corles, parents Thomas and Margaret Baldwin in Camden (just in case their names come up in the hunt!)

1841 Census shows that Thomas and Margaret had a son Cornelius Baldwin born 1840, however no mention of him in the 1851 census.

Corless is a surname found in Lancashire. May be a surname used as a forename?
Are you sure it was Corless and not Charles?

From a completely different source received info., that Corles(s) and Hester  had another son, (fourth born) Charles (or Charlles) Baldwin who Married Martha Stannard (daughter of Richard Stanner) in 1831 in Kilbrogan, Ireland ( St. Nicholas Church).

Anyone with info., to either substantiate or disprove would love to hear.
Cheers,
Skip7.

Should have added, that this seems highly unlikely as Corless and Hester married 1811, that he was fourth born, outside possibility he could have been the first born.

Hi Skip7

Welcome to Rootschat! and oh my goodness at last someone else looking for my Baldwin family, you are the first I have met in 20 years of research.

In a minute I will answer your private message with access to my online tree.  But to answer some of below:

Thomas does indeed seem to be Corlis first born son, born in Ireland, don't know any more than that currently.  He had a son Corlis in 1840.  I have copy of his baptism and his death certificate in 1844.  The poor little chap was nearly 4 years old when he died.  They had a further 4 children in St Giles and all went to Canada.

I have not managed to find any more children for Corlis and Hester/Esther in Ireland but that is not to say they don't exist.  They then had a William born and died 1823, Sarah who married Michael Madigan, William Henry 1829 to 1891, our ancestor and a Henry born 1833 died 1834.  I researched Sarah and Michael Madigan and that was another very sad story.

I have held in my records the Henry who married Hannah Darby but have not been able to find a positive connection thus far.

Sorry it took so long to answer, I don't get onto Rootschat that often these days.
