Help !! Mary Carroll or Brown and HMS Forward
« on: Sunday 30 January 22 20:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Looking for some help on how to verify a maiden name. Its not showing on any death certs so finding it hard. In stone info i have my grandad born 25th April 1896 Belfast and died 13th August 1960 Forth, Lanarkshire. His brother David born 1904 Belfast died 12th Feb 1922 in Belfast shot by IRA. His sister Mary (know as Minnie) born 18th October 1887 and died 18th October 1949. Having trouble with mother maiden name and how to verify.

Also it seems my grandad had a nephew Samuel Cowan Boyd i found his death cert and he died on HMS Forward on 24th October 1939 any tips on finding more info on HMS forward and his death. Any help would be fab

Did your grandfather, or any of his siblings, marry in Scotland?.  That marriage certificate would record parents' names.

Who is Mary CARROLL or BROWN?

Re your grandfather.  As he died in Scotland - both parents names should be shown on his death cert including his mothers maiden name.  If he married in Scotland - his marriage cert will have the same info.

Are you sure that HMS Forward refers to a ship?
The cruiser of that name was sold for scrap in 1921.

Could it be this?
