John A Reeves of Salisbury
« on: Monday 31 January 22 18:41 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I have acquired a note book with family trees relating to John A Reeves of Salisbury.  It was part of a donation to a local charity book shop and was passed to me because I do some family history research of my own.  It is a lovely book with very neat trees and coats of arms illustrations so wondering if it could be passed on to a family member.

Welcome to Rootschat

Could you tell us what birthdate & parentage are given for John as there are a lot of that name in Wiltshire.  It will help anybody reading your post to determine if they have a connection

John Anthony Reeves born 21 October 1933 in Southampton but Salisbury is mentioned on the cover so assume he lived in Salisbury at some point.  He married in 1957 to Shirley Albert b. 1934.  There are lots of other names in the book including Allin, Arney, Thornback, Christmas and Heighes,  Some of the names date back to the 1100s so a lot of work has been done.

Welcome to Rootschat  :D

The Reeves/Albert marriage produced three children.  You can see these births on Freebmd.

It may be worth seeing if you can track down these children with a view to seeing if they are interested in the note book.  Haven't checked yet to see if the parents are still alive.

If none of the family are interested you could offer the book to the relevant local family history society.

Further searching suggests that both John and Shirley have died, John in 2016 and Shirley in 1996.  Both deaths were registered in Winchester.

This would mean that if you wish to pass the notebooks to family it would be John and Shirley's children.

You will have to bear in mind that they may not be interested in which case these notes could be  passed on to the local family history society.

Thank you, that's really helpful.  I will do some more digging for living family.  I think you may be right about them not wanting it though as it was given to a charity book shop so maybe as part of a clearance.   Worth a try though  :)
