German & Pennsylvania Weavers
« on: Sunday 06 February 22 21:06 GMT (UK) »
Still having trouble with my Weaver Ancestry. I have many distant cousin matches to a Michael, or Johann Michael Weaver whose family migrated to Pennsylvania from Baden-Wuttenburg (14+). He was (I believe) the captain of a ship named Lydia, which sailed from Germany, Kent and then onward to the USA. He was married to Anna Barbara (some different views on her surname).

Their son Andrew Weaver had been gone from the family for 14 years when (Johann) Michael died in 1801, and he was excluded from the will unless he came back soon.  He did not come back.

Andrew Weaver was born in 1766.  No one on Ancestry has a wife for him. Three trees say he died in 1850 but no sources are given.

Can anyone give a suggestion on where I can look for traces of this Andrew? I appreciate that he may have been deceased for the whole time, but he is my working hypothesis at present.

My Robert Weaver was married in 1810 in Spitalfields London. No trace of him before this. My Weavers are connected to these German/Pennsylvania Weaver's somehow but I am missing several vital links.

Help and opinions welcome.

Many thanks

Yes, if the person you are looking for was German his surname would most likely have been Weber - which, like the English surname is an occupation, is the German word for the occupation of 'weaver'. It might help to search for Johann Michael Weber and Andreas Weber, depending on when their surname was anglicised.
