Search for GGG grandfather Thomas & Mary Guest
« on: Tuesday 15 February 22 12:04 GMT (UK) »
I’m looking for details of my GGG grandparents Thomas & Mary Guest. My great great grandfather was Joseph Whitehouse Guest (28/09/1806 - 01/10/1876) from Dudley. Mary died on 3 August 1876 aged 93 in Dudley. Certificate says Thomas was a bricklayer. He wasn’t alive after 1837. They had numerous children from 1797-1814, all at St Thomas Dudley. Any help gratefully received. Geast often used instead of Guest.

Thanks for reply.
It’s a very good chance as great great grandfather was named Joseph “Whitehouse” Guest & daughter in 1813 was Mary “Whitehouse” Guest. Strange that marriage was in Harborne and all children born in Dudley. Census of 1851 & 1861 states Mary born in Gornal/Sedgley which are both next to Dudley.

Hi,

Not saying that this is definitely the marriage, just making suggestions.

However on 1851 Census, Mary gives her age as 77 so born 1774, the census was taken on 30th March, there is a Bpt for a Mary Whitehouse, dau of Joseph & Mary Whitehouse 9.4.1775 again at
Harborne St. Peter’s.  This would match exactly with the age of 77.

On opposite page, there is a Bpt for Hannah Whitehouse 25.4.1774, with same parents.

Did any of her other children have second name of Whitehouse?

The age on the census in 1851 suggests she was born prior to 30 Mar 1774. Her death certificate age of 93 on 3 Aug 1866 suggest prior to to 3 Aug 1773. The census of 1851 shows her living with Mary W Griffin. This is her daughter Mary Whitehouse Guest who married James Griffin on 18 April 1835 so again indicate she was Mary Whitehouse but census states born Gornal/Sedgley. I’m therefore fairly certain she was Whitehouse but not born in Harborne. 2 children given name Whitehouse (Joseph & Mary) perhaps suggest they were named after her parents. It’s the Harborne connection that’s the issue as can’t see how someone born in Sedgley gets married in Harborne and from 1797 to 1814 has about 12 children in Dudley. I’ve absolutely nothing on her husband Thomas Guest as no certificates or census to confirm. The only Thomas Guest who died in Dudley (1814-1837) was in 1824 aged 60.
