Charles Pike
« on: Tuesday 15 February 22 15:10 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the death details of Charles Pike in South Africa.
He was married to Mary Jane Clarke on 5th August 1882 in Southampton, at some point they ended up in South Africa. They had 5 children all born Transvaal, South Africa, George, Cecil, Nelly, Ruby & Herbert. In british 1901 census Mary & children all back in England living with her brother in Southampton, Mary described as a widow. In 1911 census Mary has married Alfred Foot and still living in Southampton. Youngest child Herbert born around 1900 so Charles must have died shortly before this but I am struggling to find details. I believe he fought in the Boer War, plus there might be a connection to diamonds but this might just be a rumour. He was born around 1856 in Southampton.
Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the marriage certificate of Charles pike to Mary Jane Clarke and if so what was his occupation at the time. Wondering if he was in the 1st Devonshire Regiment?

The Devonshire Regiment Pike is a red herring. The initial C is a mistranscription. His name was George.

Oh dear thought I had found him, Charles Pike no 2697 in Queens West Surrey Regiment, but he wasn't married, maybe he will remain one of those mysteries.

Mary Jane Pike remarried in 1905 to Alfred Foot, would she have to provide proof of her first husbands death?
