Adoption.
« on: Wednesday 16 February 22 13:25 GMT (UK) »
Even if the adoption is planned for shortly after the birth will the baby be registered initially with the name of the birth mother and father in the name the birth parent(s) choose ?

Once the child is adopted is he/she given another Birth Certificate with new names (if adoptive parents choose new names) also with the names of the adoptive parents?

Thanks.

What timescale is involved.  I would have thought that legally - the birth should be registered by - or in the name of - the biological mother.   If at that stage no adoptive parents are known - the name would be of the biological mothers choosing

“Shortly after the birth”. What period after the birth?

In the late 1970's  ---
before the birth, the mother had decided her baby would be adopted - immediately after the birth baby taken - mother never saw the baby.
Would the baby's birth have to be registered by the birth mother with her name as 'mother?'

Would the baby be issued with another birth certificate with new names and the names of the adoptive parents described as the 'mother' and 'father' on the certificate ?

Taken by who immediately after the birth - Social Services or the adoptive parents?

thanks Rosie - so the Birth mother registers the Birth and then the adoptive parents register the birth in their name at a later date.  That makes sense although it must be very strange for a birth mother who has had her baby taken to be adopted to go and register her baby's birth

I would think that if she gave birth in a 'home / hospital' it would probably be done by the admin staff there.

The birth mother would normally regsiter the birth, but someone else who qualified as an informant could do it on her behalf (but with the mother's details shown).

The adoptive parents don't register the birth in their names - an entry is made in the Adopted Children Register by the court that authorises the adoption.

The original birth entry is then noted as "adopted" .
