Wingate Russell of Oakley

Hello,

I'm looking for any information on a Wingate Russell, of Oakley (House), Bedfordshire.

Wingate married Anne Alston, the eldest daughter of Rev. Vere John Alston, Rector of All Saint's church, Odell, co. Beds. by his 1st wife Elizabeth Everard. She must have been born about 1715 as her parents married at Bolnhurst on 1st March 1713-14.

All I can find online and on Ancestry is their marriage licence dated 23 May 1742 -
Felmersham (co. Beds.) Register - “Marriages in the year of 1743, Mr Wingate Russell of Oakley batchelor and Ann Alston of Pavenham both of the County of Bedford by a licence from the office of Faculties May 23.”

Apart from that nothing.

Any further information greatly appreciated.

I wonder if you have seen this tree on Ancestry, I'm not sure if it is correct, clearly not the same Anne but worth a look,

There's a baptism at Odell on 24 Nov 1689 of Mrs Ann Alston daughter of Sir Rowland Alston and Dame Temperance, his wife. 

Marriage at Bolnhurst on 1 March 1714/15 Mr Vere John Alston, rector of Odell to Mrs Alston of Pavenham, widow

Baptism at Odell on 13 Dev 1685 of Vere John son of Sir Rowland Alston & Temperance his lady 

Marriage at Felmersham on 23 May 1743 of Mr Wingate Russell of Oakley, bachelor to Ann Alston of Pavenham, spinster "both of the county of Bedford by a licence from the office of Faculties"

Sorry for delay in getting back to you, and many thanks for all the info you've posted. Very much appreciated.

I have a lot of the Alston baptisms / burials you sent but I had overlooked the baptism and burials you sent for Wingate Russell. That's great.

His wife Anne (née Alston) was apparently the eldest daughter of the Rev. Vere John Alston and his wife Elizabeth, who seem to have had only 4 daughters in total, Anne, Temperance, Elizabeth b. and d. 1718, and another Elizabeth b. 1722, d. 1724. There is no sign of the baptism entries for Anne and Temperance, but they must have been born around 174 - 1718 as the parents were married on 1 March 1713-14.

If Wingate was buried at Harrold (part of the Alston family estates), I presume Anne might be buried there also. I can't find any children, but think they might have been childless as Temperance married a Rev. Arthur Bedforde and had heirs

Ann Russell widow of Harrold, (widow of Wingate Russell)? died 1764 left a will written 1 March 1764 proved 10 May 1764. (PCC)

to my cousin Ann Bedford and my cousin Temperence Bedford 1/- (one shilling each)
Executors -my good friend Mary Wooten widow of Harrold and her son William Wooten.
Mary gets 10 pounds for her trouble and her son William gets the remainder of her estate.

No children mentioned.

Note she refers to Ann and Temperence as cousins, shouldn't they be nieces if they are the daughters of her sister Temperence Alston- Bedford
