SOLVED - Norton _?somthing?__Phillpott
« on: Saturday 19 February 22 13:03 GMT (UK) »
What is the abbreviated word on the left side of the Curly Bracket, between the two last names?
Norton a?? Phillpott

I figure it to be something like aka or alias since they are the last names from both his parents

It could be Afor as in Aforementioned, it's bracketed and looks like there could be and arrow pointing down from an upper part of the text.

I wonder if it is an abbreviation for "illegitimate" as Sarah (widow)is mentioned and so is Roger Phillpott a married man, the supposed father.

I was about to suggest the same thing, the cross bar presumably being a contraction mark?

Thanks, Carol, BumbleB, horselydown86 & JenB

Much appreciated :)

The last letter being an 's' makes sense now to be alias...

Well, we all learn something new, don't we?  And there is a clearer example of "als" a couple of pages later!
