I assume you have his birth cert so no doubt about his birthdate.  However - no 1939 register entry with that birthdate although he could have been serving in one of the armed forces.

If he died after 1969 his full birthdate would be shown.  It's not unusual for a person reporting the birth to get the year wrong but most times the month & day are correct

If Fanny never remarried & assuming she remained in the Holywell area - it looks as though she may have died in 1967 - St Asaph aged 79

I have my Grans birth certificate dob 3/8/1887, Rhyl, I also have my Uncle’s birth certificate.

Your gran must be the death registered in the June qtr 1967 aged 79.  She would have been 80 on 3.8.1987 but died a few months before

Doesn't help finding Hughie's death though

Can you confirm he is with the family on the 1921 census?

Ok - he's not with Fanny in 1939 & I even checked for a death in Scotland so it's very strange.
