Famous Ancestor
« on: Wednesday 02 March 22 16:41 GMT (UK) »
Prior to a few checks...is it wrong to get excited that my 3rd cousin 5 times removed was the Rt Hon Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister and founder of the police force?

My 7x grt grandfather is his 2x grt grandfather.

Nice one! I've got one famous person in my tree but I won't name him here and steal your thread. Most of mine are also ag labs and skilled trades, and military.

Why not?  The best I can do is second cousin four times removed of William P. Frye, a senator from Maine [1881-1911] who no one has ever heard of.

No, it isn't wrong, it's normal & part of the fun & enjoyment of doing your family tree.

We all get excited about different things, not necessarily anything to do with famous people.

More than 10 years ago, my maternal aunt told me a story & gave me the name of an 'aunt' on her mother (my maternal g/mother) side but she didn't know her maiden name, only her shortened forename (Cassie) & married surname.

I was ecstatic when I discovered exactly who she was about 1 yr ago as my aunt is still alive aged 88 yrs.

The 'aunt' was her mother's 1st cousin i.e. my aunt's 1st cousin, once removed.
