Gilpin - Killegar
« on: Saturday 05 March 22 20:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am looking for some help regarding the Gilpin family. Quick overview - My great great grandmother was Eliza Jane Gilpin (married Spotten), her father was Robert Henry Gilpin and mother, Isabella Wilson. They had a son William (Willie) married Magee and another daughter Isabella Margaret (Rita) married Morrison - I have found both Eliza and Isabella's birth certs, with no luck on Williams. I have the marriage cert for Robert and Isabella which happened in Carrigallen Parish in 1897, Roberts address given was Parish of Kildallan, father William Gilpin. I have then found the 1901 and 1911 census of the family living in Diamond, Cavan, before moving back to Leitrim at some stage where I found the death of Robert in Drummercross, Killegar, 1936 with son William present. My grandmother has informed me of her knowledge and I have used this to get what I have so far but I am not getting much further and would be very grateful for any help. Ideally I am looking for any information further back the line such as Roberts birthplace (from records I have he was born about 1862), who his mother was etc. I have tried to look but I am getting very scattered information, any little thing at all would be greatly appreciated as it might help piece things together!  :)

This is a name I recognise, my Dad used to talk about the Gilpins in Killeshandra, Cavan.
I have Wilsons and Morrisons in my lineage.
My maternal grandfather was a Wilson and my paternal grandmother was a Morrison.
Don’t know if there any links here.

Thank youn Kiltaglasson for the links and MEW53! MEW53, I believe that Rita married George Morrison and I have come across more Wilson relations on my grandmothers side from Gulladoo who you may also know of. I will link my family tree on ancestry below if anybody wishes to take a look.
