Birth records quarry maternity home Lincoln January 1949
« on: Monday 07 March 22 21:00 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying desperately to find details of my birth at the quarry maternity home 1949 for unmarried mothers.
I have been in touch with Lincoln archives they hold nothing they passed me to another place in Lincoln and they have nothing, surely these records could not simply disappear.
Please can anyone help me.

Beyond the details on your birth certificate there is a fair chance anything that does exist will be restricted under a 100 year rule or (if available), heavily redacted. Ridiculous though it sounds my adoption file from the 1960's in Lincoln has all references to my adoptive family censored to prevent their identity being revealed, this in spite of the fact the adoption was granted and I was brought up by them.

Edit to say that the records left by the Matron are held by Lincs Archives but subject to 100 year disclosure rule, a lost of holdings can be found on the new Lincs Archives site http://www.calmview.eu/lincolnshirearchives/calmview/default.aspx

Thank you for getting back to me I did know about the 100 year I'll be long gone by the time that comes round. It's so annoying when you are told they can get the information you need and then someone comes back to you saying no they don't hold anything. What gets me is where has the paperwork gone if the archives don't hold it or the Lincoln social services it's like I was never born. All I wanted to know is how long I was left at the quarry.
Sorry for ranting thanks for your help.

There are some posts on the Lincolnshire board about The Quarry, this one has some details from people who were born there;

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=394356.0

If your enquiry relates to adoption then the adoption file may have details though they do vary, mine is quite a hefty wad of paperwork but much of it is duplicated information gathered over a period of months from first being given up for adoption through to the adoption hearing itself.
I had to go back and forth between the issuing court and social services to get it after being given the stock 'all paperwork was destroyed in the war' excuse. After asking which war between 1966 and 2005 that might be I was finally given access through my local social services department and supplied with the heavily redacted paperwork to keep at home.

Thank you for your reply I wasn't adopted my mother kept me but I was always under the impression that the mothers were only there for six weeks after the birth. I don't know when she took me home but I was baptised in April 49 from the quarry three months after I was born.

What sort of information are you looking for if you weren't adopted?  Your birth certificate?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

I have my birth certificate no fathers name as I have no idea who he is my mother took that to her grave. I’m just wanting information from the quarry as to how long I was there was I pou up for adoption then my mother changed her mind and that’s why I ended up with her.
And why was I baptisised after three months.
It’s very complicated I’m trying to find a father done the usual DNA test but nothing as yet.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me.

Hi,

Regarding DNA, I've found that different people test with different DNA companies so put your DNA on more then one database if you can...

I don't know what company you've already tested with, but as a rough guide - AncestryDNA and
23andme do not accept uploads/transfers in, so you need to buy a brand new test from them.

LivingDNA, MyHeritage and FTDNA accept uploads in and charge a small "Unlock" fee but this is cheaper than buying a brand new test from them.

All the best with your search.
